Dr Quentin Campbell Hewson

Paediatric Oncologist, GNCH, (Newcastle upon Tyne)

Dr Quentin Campbell Hewson is a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist specialising in solid tumour oncology, sarcomas, early phase trials and palliative care at the Great North Children’s Hospital. Dr Campbell-Hewson graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1988 and trained in Paediatrics in Leeds, Manchester, Brisbane and Newcastle. He has been a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist in Newcastle since 2003. Passionate about clinical research, he developed the Newcastle Paediatric Early Phase Clinical Trials program , which is now one of only 20 European First in Child trial sites. In his advocacy for new therapies he jointly established a Northern Network for Children’s Cancer Early Phase trials –the ”INCLuDE” network- which encompasses Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This network has been the template for the networks which now cover the whole UK. He is an active member of the UK Experimental Medicines Cancer Group Paediatric Network Strategy group and the European Innovative Therapies for Children’s Cancer consortium.  Dr Campbell-Hewson is also the Specialty Group lead for Children’s Research NIHR CRN North east and North Cumbria, and leads children’s clinical research for Newcastle upon Tyne as well as Children’s Cancer Theme lead for the NIHR CYPMed Tech Cooperative. Has also always had an interest and practice in palliative care and has been lead for this since 2015. The North of England Paediatric Oncology service provides comprehensive 24 hour care for our patients irrespective of their place of care.  As the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health College Tutor for Newcastle, Dr Campbell-Hewson is responsible for the training of junior doctors in children’s services here.
